Really sucks that Rock has been swept under the rug to make room for untalented celebrities who shove their ass in people's faces instead of actually writing intelligent and deep music. Not only that, it takes little to no effort to make modern pop music. Instead of having a worshiped decade where we can look back and say "remember this band? Yeah, those guys fucking knew how to dominate", now we have "Man, remember Nicki Minaj? Remember that one song by her that sounded the same as every other song at the time?"

Popular and top hit Music has really sunk to an all-time low, and, personally, I think it's the lowest it's ever been.

I agree, but not all pop music is bad, just look at The Gorlliaz or StudioKillers.

You can't compare rock to pop, and you can't argue that modern music is inherently worse than older music. Older music had its shitload of crap too, just nobody remembers it because it wasn't worth remembering.

This is true in a sense, but I think because of the internet and mainstream media, everyone has garbage modern music shoved down their throats constantly, using sex to sell trash music with little to no redeeming value. Most good music is overshadowed and pushed to the side. Look at MGMT, for example. Amazing modern band that relies on The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zepplin's influences, yet the band is kind of overshadowed because MTV focuses now on garbage reality programming and "music" with no deeper context, rather than supporting good bands that are wanting to get their voice out.

Woodstock and the Vietnam war was the boosted the bands in the 1960s and kept going well into the 70s and when MTV hit the scene it went all out and showed us Glam Metal, Pop, and even helped introduced Heavy Metal. Yeah, there was garbage, but they had a open season with so many different bands, not just a small handful well into the 90s.

It's mostly the media forgetting to show us bands that were trying to get their sound out there that led us to the clusterfuck of music today where good bands are overshadowed by the music industry spending millions to shove untalented and mass-produced garbage into the faces of people to make money.

At least, that's what I think.

Why does everyone think that Nicki Minaj should represent the whole music industry? There are tons and tons of great bands that exist today

+QuietStealthNG The EXACT contrary is true. It's never been easier to find bands you enjoy. Mainstream media like MTV is struggling to survive with youtube, netflix, and web shows (like AVGN). Anybody can easily find bands they love just by looking online and searching for word of mouth and recommendations from friends, and probably be able to buy official albums directly from their website, as opposed to trying to find bootlegs. If someone thinks all modern music sucks, they need to look harder and bitch less. It's no longer MTV's fault if the only music someone can find is top 40.

This is a painfully generic complaint that gets paraded around every ten years. Plenty of music sucked back then too, but guess what? We forgot about it. Take a look at the top 40 pop hits from just about ANY year and most of them are going to suck ass. I think there's actually more good music out now than ever before, you just have to dig a little deeper.
